Since devotees are prohibited from gathering into Churches to attend a Eucharistic Celebration,
and thus cannot receive Holy Communion, shepherds of the Roman Catholic Church recommend a spiritual communion instead.
During spiritual communion, the faithful ask God to come into their heart as if they have received Him sacramentally — Body, Blood, Soul, and His Divinity.
Below is the suggested prayer for Spiritual Communion:
(Saint Alphonsus Liguori)
I believe that You are present in the Most Blessed Sacrament.
I love You above all things,
and I desire to receive You into my soul.
Since I cannot now receive you sacramentally,
come at least spiritually into my heart.
I embrace You as if you were already there,
and I unite myself wholly to You.
Never permit me to be separated from You.
NOTE: This act of trust may be done, provided with the intent to return to the sacrament of Holy Communion as soon as possible, when the world recovers from the pandemic.
